Vera Baird urges businesses to complete cybercrime survey

2nd October 2017

Cybercrime is a real potential risk to business, says Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner, Dame Vera Baird QC, as she urges local business leaders to share their experiences by completing a new regional survey to help police understand the best ways of working with businesses to tackle online fraud.

More than 50 per cent of crime is conducted online. To help combat this, the North East’s three Police and Crime Commissioners are working very closely with the Institute of Directors and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) to ask business owners about how they protect themselves from online fraud.

The survey, which takes only a few minutes to complete can be filled in online by visiting: – https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/Y9KLSDX

Dame Vera, said: “Collating this information will be really helpful, it will provide valuable insight to officers on what advice businesses need to protect themselves in the fight against cybercrime.

“In the digital age businesses are facing new pressures from all angles – they need to ramp up their online security defences to avoid putting their business’ finances, confidence and reputation at risk.

“We will use the information from the survey to put in place a series of events, booklets and online tools that will make a real difference in the battle to avoid fraudulent online activity.”

If people or businesses want advice, support or to report fraud they should call Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040, or visit www.actionfraud.police.uk
